Our hair consists almost 100 per cent of keratin. Keratin is the protein that gives it strength and integrity. And if there is lack of it, your hair becomes poor and dull, its growth is hindered and its ends start to split. To avoid these unpleasant things, it’s necessary to establish a regular supply of protein into the body. Fish, lean red meat, poultry, nuts, beans, chicken or quail eggs are the best source of protein. Keep in mind that barbecue, fried chops, ham and other delicious foods you may be accustomed to won’t do your hair any good. Proteins are better digested if you also include linolenic acid in your diet. It is contained in many vegetable oils, for example olive oil. Sour fruits will also improve absorption of essential proteins.
Copper and zinc provide for proper pigmentation of hair and the lack of these minerals in the body usually leads to appearance of gray hair. Thus, it will remain full of youth and color much longer if you include more nuts, boiled liver, asparagus, cereals and coarse meal. All these products are excellent sources of zinc and copper.

For shiny hair you should pay a special attention to cysteine. This amino acid is found in abundance in low-fat cheese and curd, light yogurt, soy foods, sea cabbage. Just like with proteins, fruits and other products rich in vitamin C added to your meals guarantee maximum absorption of cystine. If you are a smoker – quit now for the sake of your hair (and your general health), as nicotine is cystine’s mortal enemy.

Vitamins are absolutely necessary for strong and healthy hair. To replenish the supply of vitamin C, eat grapefruit, tangerines and oranges and drink their freshly squeezed juices. Add rose hip tea and carrots that are particularly high in vitamin A, and the hair will become less brittle. Juicy bell pepper will give your hair vitamin E that promotes natural hair growth. And finally, if you are not a fan of fish, try to become one. Because fish (trout, herring, salmon, etc) is very rich in B vitamins, including biotin that is important to maintain luster and color of your hair.
