Your hair needs to be properly cared not only from the inside, but also from the outside, i.e. to make it look and feel great with the help of external hair care treatments and cosmetics.
Masks are a proven means for bringing your weakened and damaged hair in a good condition. It often turns out that home-made masks for hair are more effective and safe, because they do not contain dyes and various harmful chemical additives. Therefore, don’t throw away a pack of soured milk or a week-old kefir from the refrigerator. There would be much more use if you put it on your hair and keep it for half an hour.
A mask mixed of castor, olive oil and dry hair shampoo will quickly bring your dry hair back to life. Take a tablespoon of these oils and a teaspoon of shampoo. Rub this mixture into the scalp and wrap it with a warm towel. Wash it off after 2 hours, using hair conditioner and shampoo.
In case of greasy hair the following mask almost works wonders. Mix egg yolk, a few drops of castor oil and a teaspoon of vegetable oil and put the mixture on your hair for 20 minutes. Then wash it off with shampoo.
If you want to make a moisturizing mask, you’ll need fat sugarless yogurt and 2 tablespoons of avocado oil. Keep this mask for 30 minutes and wash your head with shampoo and conditioner afterwards.
People have greasy hair because of hypersensitivity of sebaceous glands to some hormones. This is a sad fact and you can’t change it. What’s make it even worse is that greasy hair often go hand in hand with hair loss. However, there are some hair care products and methods of treatment that can help to cope with the problem.
Tip 1: Relax your scalp
If the scalp produces too much grease, this happens because of congenital hypersensitivity of sebaceous glands to the hormone testosterone. This sensitivity is more pronounced during puberty. Cosmetics and other hair care treatments can’t significantly change this situation. However, you can prevent further irritation of sebaceous glands that can occur, for example, because of frequent brushing or because of a hot air dryer. It is also advisable not to use too hot water for hair washing and consider whether your shampoo really suits your hair and scalp well. Light massage produces a calming and relaxing effect. There are a lot of relaxing hair care treatments, which can be rubbed into the head-skin and left for some minutes before washing. They will help to relax your scalp and prevent dandruff.
Tip 2: Wash your hair daily, but do it correctly
Daily washing with a mild shampoo will not allow fat on your scalp to be distributed on your hair. It is best of all to use a shampoo for normal hair, as it contains active cleaning substances, which are rather soft and safe for everyday use. It will help you to keep your head always clean without damaging your hair and irritating the head-skin. Shampoos for oily hair contain stronger active detergents. Use these shampoos only in cases when your hair is very greasy, dirty and stuck.
Tip 3: Dry your hair in the fresh air
A haircut that requires no hair dryer or other hairstyling means of the kind would be ideal. First of all, it saves time; Second of all, it will help you to spare the scalp and ends of hair. Dry your hair in the fresh air. If drying takes too much time, you can use a cone hairdryer. Push your head forward, and pull your hair at the roots with your fingers while drying. This will give it some extra volume.
Tip 4: Apply shampoo only to the roots
Washing the roots of hair alone is a good solution for greasy and oily hair, especially if you have damaged hair ends. To do this you need a bottle with a spout-syringe. Mix one part of shampoo for greasy hair and four parts of warm water. Apply this mixture directly to the roots of hair with the use of the syringe. Foam it and then rinse immediately. Some foam that gets on your hair while rinsing is enough to make it clean in this particular case.
Tip 5: Don’t keep you hair flat
All hair styles that don’t make your hair lie flat on your head are good enough. They include light back combing or using some forming spray at the roots while keeping your head bent. If you want to use a hairdryer to add some fixity, always check whether the flow of hot air doesn’t affect the scalp and irritate sebaceous glands. A foam fixer is also recommended.

In order to make make care of hair proper and effective it is important to correctly determine the type of hair first. Otherwise there is a risk to worsen its condition. Among the basic hair types are: normal, dry, greasy and mixed.
Hair of the normal type reflects light well and shines in the sun. If your hair is elastic, easily combed and set, if it almost doesn’t split and preserves a good healthy look for several days after washing, it means that you take a good care of your hair and use proper means that are 100% suitable for you and your hair. Unfortunately, this is a rare case.
Greasy hair can be characterized by a dim shine. In a short time after washing it begins to stick together and to seem dirty and slovenly. Hair greasiness depends on the activity of sebaceous glands of the scalp. It is very individual and is defined genetically. To some extent the amount of sebum also depends on nutrition and the amount of carbohydrates and espicially fats consumed with food.
Dry hair reflects light badly and that’s why it lookes very dim and lustreless. They are easily torn and broken. Dry hair is difficult to comb because it splits on ends and accumulates static electricity. As a result, it gets tangled and often falls out. In many cases hair becomes dry because of poor care but not because of the lowered activity of sebaceous glands.
Hair of the mixed type is, as a rule, insufficiently greased with sebum along the whole length. That’s why it is usually greasy at roots and dry on ends. The ends of mixed hair don’t receive necessary greasing and often split. It is important to take a combined care of this type of hair and apply special means along with a healthy diet.
It’s not a secret that potatoes can work wonders to your hair. So if you want to regrow your hair and make it look healthier it is very advisable to make potato mask and apply it to your scalp and hair at least once a week. To prepare it take a dish, add one yolk, one tea-spoon of vegetable oil, one tea-spoon of liquid honey and a tea-spoon of fine salt to it. Take two potatoes of medium size. Wash, peel, and grate them. Add grated potatoes to the dish and mix everything thoroughly. Prior to washing your hair divide it into locks and put the prepared mask on the scalp. Put some of the mask on your hair along the whole length. Wrap a warm towel around your head and keep it for 30-40 minutes. Wash your hair with a soft shampoo and rinse it with clear water with a small amount of vinegar or citric acid.
Actually, potatoes are perfect for any kind of hair treatment. Potato masks can be used in case of both greasy and dry hair: it all depends what you add to them. Proper treatment will surely make your hair brilliant and silky. It will also be of great help in case of hair loss.
Masks with potatoes and curdled milk are useful for treating greasy hair. Peel and grate several potatoes. Squeeze out 6 spoonsfuls of potato juice and mix them with about 200 ml of curdled milk (the greasier is your hair – the sourer should be curdled milk. Mix it carefully and put it on your hair roots and along the whole length of your hair. Wrap your head with polythene and a warm towel and keep it for about half an hour. Wash your hair thoroughly with a shampoo for greasy hair.
Use potato mask with a yolk and honey to treat dry hair. Grate 3 medium-sized potatoes, squeeze out juice and mix it with with 1 egg yolk and 20 g of liquid honey. Mix it carefully and rub it into your scalp with soft movements for it to be absorbed better. Also put this mask on clean and slightly damp hair. Leave the mask for about 30 minutes and wash it with warm water without any shampoo. Don’t use a hair-drier.
